FAQ
How much does an upright piano cost on average?
Which Upright piano is best for me?
Console pianos are a terrific space-saving option, ideal for home practice and suitable for beginner and intermediate students. Studio pianos are ideal for intermediate to advanced students and often found in homes, teaching studios, or institutions. They are also ideal for aspiring beginners who are looking for full-size keys and upgraded touch and sound. Full size professional upright pianos are ideal for players who desire a high-quality instrument, but may be limited with space. These pianos are often found in performance areas, teaching studios, and homes.
What is the distinction between spinet, console, studio, and full-size professional upright pianos?
Great question! The primary difference between spinet, console, studio, and full-size professional upright pianos are their size. The four types of pianos are characterized by:
- Full Size professional upright pianos: 48-52”. Provides the best sound quality and playability of all the upright piano types due to the size of the soundboard and strings.
- Studio pianos: 45-47”. Longer strings and soundboard provide richer tonal quality.
- Console pianos: 42-44”. Better sound quality than a spinet, often found in homes.
- Spinet pianos: 41” and under. These pianos are no longer made by piano manufacturers. Sound quality is not ideal due to the shorter strings and smaller soundboard. They are often more difficult to tune and repair due to the drop action.
